When is Compounding Helpful?

  • You need a dosage that isn’t commercially available.
  • You’re allergic to dyes, preservatives, or additives.
  • Your medication is only available in a form you can’t take.
  • Your child or pet struggles with taste or swallowing pills.

Ready to Get Started?

If mass-produced medications haven’t worked for you, ask your prescriber if compounding is an option.

What to Discuss with Your Provider:

  • Personalized Treatment Benefits – Share your challenges with standard medications and ask about customized options, including dosage adjustments, alternative forms, and allergen-free formulas.
  • Quality & Effectiveness – Learn how compounded medications are carefully prepared for safety and effectiveness. Coastal follows high-quality standards to provide trusted, personalized care.

Frequently Asked Questions

Unlike standard prescriptions, compounded medications are customized to meet your specific needs. We can adjust ingredients, strengths, and dosage forms to create medications that aren’t commercially available, such as removing allergens, changing the form from a pill to a liquid, or combining multiple medications into one dose.

You might benefit from compounding if:

  • You’re allergic to certain ingredients in commercial medications
  • You need a different strength than what’s commercially available
  • You have difficulty swallowing pills and need a liquid or lozenge
  • You need a medication that’s temporarily unavailable
  • You require a combination of medications in one dose

Your healthcare provider can help determine if compounding is right for you. We have three to four pharmacists on duty to answer any questions that arise.

The safety of our patients is our top priority. Our protocols include the following.

  • Our pharmacy follows strict United States Pharmacopeia (USP) guidelines and quality control procedures.
  • We use only FDA-approved ingredients and maintain state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
  • Each compound undergoes multiple checks during preparation and final verification before being dispensed.
  • Compounds are routinely sent to an outside lab for testing.

Our pricing is based on several factors:

  • The cost of individual ingredients
  • Time and complexity of preparation
  • Dispensing devices and supplies used
  • Professional service fees
  • Testing and quality control measures

Although a lot goes into making medications from scratch, we don’t want price to be a barrier to treatment. We strive to keep our prices fair and competitive while maintaining the highest quality standards. We will always call you with pricing before preparing your new prescription so you can make the decision to proceed with the fill.

We do not. We are not contracted with any insurance companies since they rarely cover compounded medication. We are happy to provide a claim form if you wish to seek reimbursement from your insurance company.

We have a two-day turnaround time, which can change based on the following circumstances:

  • Availability of the formula ingredients.
  • Third-party testing may be necessary, delaying the process by two to three business days.

If there is ever a delay, we will notify you immediately.

Yes! We regularly compound medications for pets in flavors they enjoy and forms that are easier to administer. We can create custom medications for various animals, working closely with veterinarians to ensure proper formulation and dosing. We also offer treats to patients who come in with their parents.

We have four pharmacists available to answer your clinical questions and four pharmacy technicians for non-clinical questions.

  • You can call us during business hours
  • Email our patient care team
  • Or leave a message on our after-hours voicemail, and we’ll call you back the next business day.
